Reach Out and Read
Reach Out and Read - March Council Take Action Project
Cadette Troop 5555 is coordinating a book drive for Reach Out and Read to benefit CHKD. CHKD stocks 26 pediatricians offices with books to be given to children from the ages of 6 months to 5 years. As part of the well-child visit, the pediatrician or nurse practitioner gives an age-appropriate book to the child, comments on the child's abilities and counsels the parent on how to use books to support the child's healthy development. Last year over 70,000 new books were donated along with 20,000 gently used books. Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast will be collecting board books through early middle school age books. Please no religious, political, sticker or textbooks.
Let’s show CHKD how much Girl Scouts loves to help others by dropping off new or gently used books at the following locations and dates:
March 16, 2013 A Place for Girls, 912 Cedar Road, Chesapeake 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
March 23, 2013 Elizabeth City Field Center, 214 North Dyer Streer 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Note: Books will not be accepted at any other location or times.
Please deliver books in cardboard boxes

Girl Scout annual membership dues will increase for the upcoming membership year – 2013-2014. This is an increase of $3, which will make the annual dues $15, effective October 1, 2013. The last dues increase took effect October 1, 2009.
Also effective October 1, 2013, Lifetime Membership will also be increased to $375. Lifetime Membership for Girl Scout Ambassadors graduating from high school will increase to $195.
At the 2008 National Council Session, where this increase was determined, the National Board asked that we anticipate an increase to $15 in three to four years’ time. When the $15 rate goes into effect on October, 1, 2013, we will be at the four-year point; and at $15 membership remains a great value; one that will allow us to continue offering quality programs, as well as reach out to more girls who need and want the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
Girl Scouts aim to constantly find new ways of providing high-quality Girl Scout Leadership Experience services and resources to our customers; including technology that makes joining Girl Scouts fast and easy. Our Council program offerings are among the finest in the nation, and we are recognized for achieving the requirements to be chartered as a Girl Scout council.
We look forward to working with girls and their families, and the volunteers who make Girl Scouting possible in Colonial Coast!
